Pirate's Gold

SKU: KS-PII

"Slow is smooth and smooth is fast." It has taken a few years, but the wait was worth it. Pirate's Gold has now landed. This was a Rolando Reyes brand (of Cuba Aliados fame), and subsequently re-blended and made by AJ Fernandez for a spell. Now Pirate's Gold is in the hands of Cuban expatriate Raymond Pages out of Esteli, and sports a new look and all new upgraded blend. Solid Gold indeed, this lovely creature is made with aged tobaccos and a lovely, seamless, almost shimmering Connecticut Ecuador wrapper that's buttery looking with some nice sheen and tooth. Out of the gate it's a tad feisty, with an opening pepper bomb that dissipates after the first few puffs before a pronounced creamy component kicks in, with hints of spice, toast, plus a floral note on the finish. The delicious creamy flavor lingers throughout the cigar. Smooth and velvety, it's on the milder side of mild to medium in body, with a mix of sweet and salt, some lingering spice and a honey bread character. Around the midway point it develops an enjoyable savory finish that stays the rest of the way. Well-made, it holds an unshakeable ash for about an inch and belts out voluminous plumes of smoke. By the final third the complexity is undeniable, featuring distinct changes as it burns from foot to head. Consistent and well-balanced atop a creamy foundation.

Our staff of cigar nuts compares Pirate's Gold favorably to: Ashton, 5 Vegas Gold, and Montecristo.
