Here at Field Supply, where the beer and wine flow like - um, like stuff that flows a lot - we were having a few pops after hours and talking about our favorite go-to cigars. I’ll be damned if the Pinar del Rio name didn’t keep popping up, like some kind of brand name whack-a-mole. PdR is and has been a fast-rising boutique manufacturer known for high-quality craft cigars. Based in the Dominican Republic, they make brands under contract for brands like Gurkha and others, as well as an ever-expanding collection of their own eponymous frontmarks.

5 x Pinar del Rio Clasico Toro (6”x52): Ecuador grown Connecticut shade wrapper, Nicaraguan and Dominican long-fillers. Exceedingly smooth and creamy with some character including hints of espresso and nuts. Medium-bodied.
5 x Pinar del Rio Oscuro Toro (6”x50): a sultry Brazilian Oscuro wrapper combined with Dominican and Nicaraguan long leaf fillers. Complex and loaded with flavors including cocoa, pepper, espresso and a nice natural sweetness. Smooth and well-balanced. Full in body.
5 x Pinar del Rio Habano Sun Grown Toro (6”x50): a gorgeous, red-hued Habano wrapper combined with a rich blend of Nicaraguan and Dominican long-fillers. Cascading with complex and hearty flavors including spice and coffee with a core earthiness. Complex and rich yet balanced refined. Full-bodied.
5 x Pinar del Rio Seleccion 2010 Toro (6”x54): a candy bar-like PA Broadleaf wrapper and blend of Dominican and Nicaraguan long-fillers. A succulent, lush flavor profile with hints of toast, roasted coffee beans, leather, and a fundamentally rich tobacco core. Medium-bodied and utterly delicious.
